This course consists of 3 modules:

Healthcare professionals must complete all 3 modules

Non-healthcare professionals must complete modules 1 and 2 only.

Module 1: Understanding Disability

The first module explores the concept and definition of what disability is and the types of disabilities or impairments that may affect different people with disability. Additionally, it focuses on the legislative framework and the policies regarding people with disability and finally, it explores the meaning of inclusive healthcare services, as well as the significant barriers of access, people with disabilities face.

Module 2: Significant Barriers to Accessing Healthcare Services

The second module analyses the areas where people with disability struggle, when accessing health services due to environmental, attitudinal, communication and interaction barriers. In addition, this module presents useful practices that alleviate each aforementioned area.

Module 3: Disability Competencies for Clinical Healthcare Workers

The third module describes disability competencies for clinical healthcare workers. Each competency is broken down into useful and illuminating tips and practices healthcare professionals can follow and apply to accommodate the needs of people with disability.
